Cherry Street Chess Club kicked off its tournament season recently with the 2007 Tinkerbell Classic. This tournament is a“GIRLS ONLY” event for 4th and 5th graders. After two weeks of exhausting play and very close matches, Jaycee Helsel defeated newcomer Jordyn Shea for the Championship. Challenge Play begins after the holidays as players battle to make the school team for the Michigan State Elementary Championships in East Lansing in February.
