Ask first graders about the H2O cycle

First graders have been learning about the water cycle to go along with the language arts unit "Weather". At the same time, we are exploring the states of matter, and how H2O changes states. Students observed ice cubes as they melted throughout the morning hours, and they also predicted and observed what would happen if water is left in a cup for a lengthy period of time (evaporation!).
Mrs. Wodehouse and Mrs. Kennedy demonstrated how water boils when it is heated, and the first graders recorded their observations in their science journals. The steam collected on the pot's lid as we boiled the water, and when we held ice over the lid, the droplets began to drip back down into the water as they cooled. It was interesting to watch a smaller version of the Earth's water cycle!
