Ms. Diane Wildfong and her students have let the rats out!

OH, RATS!

March 14, 2008

Who let the rats out?  Ms. Diane Wildfong's fifth grade class did!

Last fall these fifth graders, who need to study heredity and genetics for science,

adopted a male guinea pig named Rocky and two male rats that they named Rascal and Stewart.  Just after Christmas the rats had four babies!  Stewart and Rascalina were proud parents!  Three weeks later they had 12 more!  We have had eleven adopted so far.

The classroom rats are very friendly and inquisitive.

It has been great fun raising these rodents in our classroom. Daily feeding, cleaning the cages, watching their antics and getting to hold them often can be quite fun!

We like it when they ride our shoulder and crawl up our sleeves. It is also fun to see how adults react to them!  Scaredy cats!

Rats help make science and heredity fun to learn.

Best Fat Furry Friend Forever

He's my furry rat

Some say he wears a hat

If you look at him once or twice

You could say he's really  nice

You can say he's as cute as can be

He obviously loves me.

He is also very fat

But I still love him 'cause he's my rat!
