TV 9 and 10 personalities read to students
March 15, 2008
Cherry Street Intermediate had a special visit from some of the crew from TV 9 and 10 News. Anchors Ben Kwan and Robyn Haynes, entertainment reporter Kelly Downey, and producer Dayna Kasza (a KPS graduate!) spent some time recently with fourth and fifth graders.
They began with a reading of Longfellow's "Midnight Ride of Paul Revere" as poetry is a focus of reading month at Cherry Street. They then talked to the students about how reading has been important to each one of them. The students then had time to ask some very terrific questions. Ben, Robyn, Dayna and Kelly were impressed with the behavior and thoughtful questions.
Here are a few student comments:
"It was interesting seeing people that are on TV actually at our school." Alec Hoenicke
"It was neat asking the 9 and 10 News reporters about their lives and why they became reporters." Kaylee Gelinas
"They did a great job reading Paul Revere's Ride. It was a long poem." Destiney Ray
"I thought their answers were interesting. I found out we like some of the same books." Hannah Krol
Tyler Harrison enjoyed "the rhyming of the poem. They did a good job reading it. They didn't mess up like they told us they sometimes do at work."
"It was awesome. The poem was like a story." Alan Turnage
