Think I'm cute? You can adopt my brothers and sisters!
Free rats are up for adoption to good homes
The critters are from Ms. Wildfong's fifth grade
And the saga
continues. . .
As part of our science
curriculum, we have been
discussing genetics and have
had the opportunity to track 5 batches
of baby rats whose parents were
either hooded or Albino. We have
discovered that our line has a
recessive gene as we had one baby
from the pure Albino litter
born without hair! Students calculated
the percent of Albino to hooded
in each litter and have predicted
what might occur in the
future.
The kids like their classroom rats and learn about genetics from their studies of them.
Rascalina, formerly known as
Rascal had her
third litter of 12 babies
the last week of May
2008! The pet store in Petoskey sold all of them except
one Albino that we named, Daisy. We are keeping the hairless
baby
as well, who we have
named Pebble, however we have 18 other rat
babies
waiting for
adoption!
If you'd like to adopt a free
baby rat stop by Ms. Wildfong's room
at Cherry Street Intermediate
to pick one out! We have plenty!
