WHAT MAKES A GREAT SCHOOL
Birch Street Elementary is gaining recognition for being a High Performance Elementary School. Recently, Birch Street has been visited by the Buckley and Elk Rapids School Districts and TBA Intermediate Schools District. Later this month we will be visited by Boyne City Schools and the TBA Elementary Principals’ Association. Why are they coming?
Leadership provided by the Federal Reading First Grant provided the
research and personnel to create an effective instructional
program. Under this leadership the staff at Birch Street developed
a program to assess all students for achievement and determine
specific learning goals. Teachers meet by grade level and determine
what interventions must be made to bring each student to their full
potential. The first two hours of each day are dedicated to
uninterrupted instruction and interventions.
This program has been successful. Recent Michigan Educational
Assessment Program (MEAP) scores indicate that Birch Street
Elementary is improving each year. Congratulations to Birch Street
Elementary, a good school well on its way to becoming great!
