Patriots of 2008:
Ms. Wildfong's theme for this year is "Patriot Citizens" in honor
of the upcoming elections. Learning about governmental procedures
from the book The Kid Who Ran For President by Dan Gutman is
fun as well as factual. We also have a two 'party' system to earn points
while reporting facts; Blue Democrats and Red Republicans. There
was quite the discussion of which team they really wanted to be on!
In honor of our red, white and blue we took individual and table
shots. Indeed this group is a wonderful Patriotic bunch!

Metric Olympics
Reviewing metrics is so much more fun when it is completely hands
on! To begin the review we did centers in our classroom involving
linear, liquid volume, solid volume, mass, area, and perimeter. We
then grouped as buddies and completed six Metric Olympic Centers
in our gym; Paper Plate Discus, Paper Straw Javelin, Cotton Ball
Shot Put, Right Handed Marble Grab, Left-handed Sponge Squeeze,
and the Big Foot Contest. Once we were done we figured out our
margin of error from the estimate to the actual measurement. Scores
for the winners in each category are posted in the hall. We have
two more hands-on centers to go! What fun!
