Andre’s place was founded by artist Michelle St. Amant, in honor of her son Andre Krist who died of fatal seizures at the age of 18 in 2004.He was born with a rare genetic disorder which wasn’t diagnosed at birth, which left him to live with the challenges of Autism, Scoliosis and a severe seizure disorder in his teens. “None of these challenges interfered with his passion for life”, said Amant, “most particularly movies, music, humor, and art.” She often worked with Andre helping him to develop his artistic talent which allowed him an excellent avenue to communicate with, and ultimately boosted his self-esteem.

Michelle hopes to do the same for others through Andre’s Place, which will provide studio space, art materials, instruction and a gallery in a safe, supportive, non-competitive environment. She will begin a pilot program in February of this year.

Last October, the first benefit for Andre’s Place took place at the Bata Transfer Center, hosting an art exhibit, “A New Dimension” featuring nine area artist age 18 and older living with challenges.
