KHS SEEDS PARTICIPATE IN DAY OF SERVICE
Kalkaska High School SEEDS students took part in a Day of Service in honor of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day recently. We spent the afternoon at Kalkaska Memorial Eden Center where Alison Heine, Activity Manager and Volunteer Coordinator, arranged for us to spend some one-on-one time with some of the residents; doing things like playing games, talking, laughing and story-telling with the residents.
The students were pleasantly surprised at how much they enjoyed themselves. Tyler Farrar, freshman at KHS said "I think we should make this a habit" and other students also expressed an interest in continuing to volunteer at the Eden Center on an ongoing basis. Anastasia Reynolds, a sophomore said, "I had a good time learning about someone else!" and Emilie Forward, a junior said, "I had fun. It felt good and was fun to help one of the residents have a good day."
It was a valuable opportunity for the students to set themselves aside and focus on the needs of someone else. In the words of Martin Luther King, Jr. "Life's most persistent & urgent question is: 'What are you doing for others?'"
