Kalkaska Area Educational Foundation enters 17th year

October 11, 2007

Many of you may not know that the Kalkaska Area Educational Foundation has been playing a behind the scenes role in support of our district school students. During the 17 years of existence the Foundation has assisted with the fundraising efforts for new band uniforms, sponsorship of WKAL-AM radio station, numerous yearly scholarship activities and in 2003 the procurement of a mobile computer lab for the middle school. Recently the school district was able to purchase new digital cameras for each school building thanks to funding from the Education Foundation.

The Kalkaska Area Education Foundation is determined to be a tax exempt organization under section 501 (c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. This status takes about a year of legal involvement filing reports and documents with the Department of the Treasury. By obtaining this status individuals, businesses, estates or any other organization may make donations to the Foundation which in turn can be deducted as a donation from your income tax return. A donation can be earmarked for a specific project or scholarship.

Current officers include James Peters, school board president, Lee Sandy, superintendent both are non-voting members. David Wolfe secretary-treasurer, trustees Mike Babcock, Antonio Poli, and Tom Wegener are all voting members of the board.
