Learn more about the International Baccalaureate (IB) at a community meeting
Parents and community residents interested in learning more about the International Baccalaureate (IB) Programme are invited to an informational meeting on Feb. 6 at 6 p.m. in the Kalkaska Middle School library.
Kalkaska Public Schools is one of four school districts in the Traverse Bay Area Intermediate School District to pilot the development of the IB programs for elementary and middle schools. Leland, Elk Rapids and select Traverse City schools are beginning work on the three-year implementation process. Funding for the program is from a Kellogg Foundation grant.
The program is a rigorous academic program designed to encourage student curiosity and involvement. The IB program does not change the curriculum offered in a school district, and all students are included.
“We will talk about what the IB program is and what it isn’t,” said Diane Swoverland, IB coordinator for Kalkaska Public Schools, as well as what the program means for the community and students.
