Celebration of Veteran's Day at our Middle School

Kalkaska Middle School held a flag raising at 8:15 on Monday, November 12 in observance of Veteran’s Day, organized by Individuals & Societies teacher Doug Brown. Jai’Vyera Stevenson said, “It is nice to have them here to celebrate Veteran’s Day so we can honor them.” The International Baccalaureate school joined local veterans for a traditional flag raising ceremony, the pledge, and the playing of “Taps.”  “It is cool how every year the veterans take time out of their day to come and help students understand why we should show respect and they allow students to express their thanks for their service,” commented Kayle Bilke. David Pauch played taps on the trumpet; Jim Brown, Nolle Holley, Darrel Willison, and Ray Todd raised the flag and accepted thanks from many students including Emma Bilkey. Mr. Doug Brown led the school in the Pledge of Allegiance. Doug Brown said, “Our veterans were impressed with our students and the respect they displayed.”

Also featured in photos showing their respect were Bethany Campbell, Annie Ponstein, and Akea Stevenson watching the flag being raised; Rose Rowell, Annabelle Morris, Thorston Booy, and JaiVyera Stevenson standing behind Nolle Holley saying the Pledge of Allegiance; and Austin and Austin Morgan standing behind Darrel Willison.
